MMS Integrating SAMR Model
Students at Memorial Middle School are welcoming the school year by integrating technology using the SAMR Model. Their teacher, Mrs. Michelle Rivera is one of the first teachers at MMS to be selected to participate in the Apple Academy under the direction of Mrs. Clemencia Garza, Director. “Students are going the extra mile by bringing in their personal electronic devices to work with. It’s exciting to see them use their devices in new ways. One application, Quiver Vision, transforms students’ drawings into 3D images. I love hearing their gasps in amazement,” says Mrs. Rivera. Student Faith Chacon says, “I enjoy the app Quiver Vision because it allows me to visually understand the plant and animal cells.”
Currently, Mrs. Rivera is training her seventh grade science partner, Mrs. Mary De La Garza-Stoffel, so that all seventh grade students are given the opportunity to work on integrating app smashing techniques. “It is demanding but I am thankful to have such great trainers such as Mr. Omar Lopez (IGMS) and Mrs. Beatrice Gonzalez (JDMS) that I can ask for support. “
Students are taking delight in using their technology as a resource for instruction. They have utilized several apps such as, Quiver Vision, See Saw, Flip Grid, Padlet, and Popplet. They are looking forward to the remainder of the school year to become successful in owning their learning through the use of technology integration and integrating the SAMR model.
