Reading Challenge at Memorial Middle School

On your mark, get set, READ!  Memorial Middle School Library hosted a reading challenge aimed at revving up students’ engines. MMS students were encouraged to read 200,000 words or more within a span of one month; zero to 200k in 30 days! As the starting flag waived, teachers motivated all their students to read and test on Reading Renaissance, on a daily basis. Students were constantly checking out books, in order to meet this reading challenge.  Any student that met the reading challenge, was invited to participate in a fun and exciting day of obstacle course moon jumps.

Memorial Middle School had over 250 students meeting this goal. We are extremely proud of all the students who were able to meet this reading challenge. Our goal is to get students to become avid readers.  Students who read every day will perform better in reading tests, build broader vocabulary and gain general knowledge.  For these reasons, Memorial Middle School we will continue to have reading challenges and celebrate students’ success.
