The Memorial Middle School Band Staff

Robert A. Flores, Head Band Director

B.M., Texas A&M University – Kingsville; Kingsville, Texas

A native of Kingsville, Texas, Mr. Flores is in his eleventh year of teaching and in his third year as Head Band Director at Memorial Middle School. Having invested all of his years at La Joya ISD, he has spent all of those years as a member of the Lobo Cluster; having served at Irene Garcia MS and Palmview HS. He continues his teachings with the Trumpet Studio and the Marching Band at Palmview High School. As an educator, Mr. Flores strives to teach core values to his students and the best practices to learn the art of music. This has led to students under his direction and advisement to place and rank among the TMEA and UIL Audition and Performance processes. As a performing musician, he is the Principal Trumpet, Section Leader, and President of the Executive Board with the McAllen Wind Ensemble, and the Lead Trumpet with the Swing Street Big Band from McAllen, Texas.

With a true passion for music and the arts, Mr. Flores is constantly sharpening his skills with marching band drill design and choreography, music arranging (and even working on his first composition), and practicing his trumpet. He is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Texas Jazz Educators Association, and an alumni member of Kappa Kappa Psi.

When he is not in the band hall, you might see Mr. Flores cycling around the McAllen/Mission/Edinburg area, playing golf, spending time with friends, spending time with his loving and supporting girlfriend Erica, and hanging out and playing with his awesome cat Maynard Purrguson.

The Palmview Band Staff is vital to the success of the Memorial Middle School Band Program as they add an extra 45+ years of teaching experience in the Memorial Band Hall. They assist the MMS Band with beginner classes, concert band clinics, section coaching, and individual lessons. The students and directors thank you for all of your help.
